Bella is one of the dogs on the list who sadly passed away in 2011, but not before she touched many of us who heard the story of the tiny stray’s unlikely friendship with Tarra, a fully grown elephant. Eight years ago, Bella wandered onto The Elephant Sanctuary of Tennessee. There she met Tarra, a retired showbiz elephant, and the two became constant companions. Their story charmed millions around the world, and the two friends were even profiled by CBS news. Sadly, this heartwarming story turned heartbreaking when Bella was attacked by coyotes and succumbed to her injuries in October. Tarra found her body and carried it to one of their special places and waited until the sanctuary caregivers came. Today, Tarra continues to grieve and heal at the sanctuary surrounded by friends.
